Hello, my name is Lisa Durant. I like to think of myself as a Black Unicorn. In folklore the black unicorn is the rarest of the unicorns. I have often been labeled weird, different, rare.  I have grown to accept and even love these labels, hence my self label of Black Unicorn. I have never been one to walk the line and fit in with the crowd.

 I’m a born and bred bajan, I am a business consultant, and customer service rep, and I am a mother. I also love to blog.

This blog is a collection of my thoughts on a range of subjects that reflect who I am as a woman. In essence it is my not-so-private diary of sorts.

I hope this blog inspires you to explore new possibilities and express yourself in a raw, authentic way, as I will be trying to do. Either way, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

When I started this blog, I said that the purpose was to give my opinion on a variety of issues. The social discourse surrounding Cardi B's and Megan the Stallion's new number one song and accompanying music video has caught my attention, and prompted me to share my thoughts. I am not a fan of most of the mainstream music of this decade so it is not my bop(it's 90's and 2000's music for me). However, unlike many of the commentators online, I am not going to pretend that I "accidentally" (do we look stupid?) heard it. Because of the hype surrounding the release of the song, I watched the music video on the same day of its release. I have no real opinion on the song itself, however, I do have opinions on the discussion. Living in a country that tends to be highly conservative at convenient times(yes I really just said that, sue me), I expect that my thoughts will not be popular.

My Body Journey

Over the years, I have fluctuated between big and small in size. Growing up I was so thin , you could see right through me. At both primary and secondary school, this was one of the reasons other girls had for teasing me. As hurtful as this was, the admiration I received under the male gaze(to be explored in another post) was enough to prevent me from hating my body. As I grew older and became more "slim-thick" , I loved my body so much that my ego was through the roof. After I gave birth to my daughter, my body "snapped back" easily due to the exercise and healthy diet I had participated in while pregnant. After falling pregnant again(you can read what it was like losing this baby here ), I gained a lot of fat, partly due to the fact that this pregnancy, being extremely difficult, rendered me practically bedridden. Unfortunately, my body did not bounce back the way it had after the previous pregnancy.
